Music has always been a preeminent part of my life, and it has helped shape me as a person. I have been a multi-instrumentalist since I was ten years old and have always had a passion for Music. My first love is guitar, but I also enjoy playing drums, bass guitar and piano. When I play my guitar, I can reveal my innermost self, truly expressing my emotions and conveying myself in ways that words simply cannot. One thing I believe all musicians need is a space where they can feel comfortable and find inspiration. For me, that space is the studio in my basement. There, I keep many “relics” or “artifacts” on display from my musical past reflecting who I am as a musician. Let me take you on a journey through my home studio, or “Sound Lounge” as I refer to it. Here are some key items that define me as a musician…
Beatles Vinyl Record “Rubber Soul” - One of the first things you will see when you enter my studio is the record player on my retro modern style unit where I store my vinyl records. If there is one band that stands above the rest, it is certainly The Beatles. Having their music in my collection is a must, especially their 1965 record “Rubber Soul,” a masterpiece that in my opinion is a timeless work of art . Of my many musical influences, The Beatles have been a role model to me. Though all four Beatles are admirable in their own right, Paul McCartney stands out to me more than the rest. His uplifting lyrics and positive outlook on life have taught me that no matter which direction life takes, always remain humble. Be positive and for every minute of anger spent, 60 seconds of happiness are lost. Paul’s message resonates with me every time my “Rubber Soul” vinyl is spinning.
Banner for Sound Byte - My passion for music led me to create Sound Byte, my band. We have performed all over Long Island at multiple festivals, entertainment venues and local fundraisers. One thing consistently present at our shows is our 3’x 5’ banner showcasing the band’s name and logo designed by yours truly. This banner has seen many audiences and is an integral part of our live aesthetic. When not being displayed at a show, the Sound Byte banner proudly hangs above my favorite sofa in my studio.
Sofa from the Sixties - The next destination on our studio tour is my coveted, bright orange velvet sofa. This sofa has been in my family since the 1960’s and it has since been passed down to me. It provides me with a sense of comfort and a familiar place to create. This vintage, plush sofa is my go-to songwriting oasis. Music is a form of self-expression unique to every individual, and my cherished sofa is essential as it fills me with the inspiration needed to create and record original music at home.
Custom Built Guitars - I have always believed if one is passionate about an instrument, that he or she should know about its inner workings and how it is made. Proudly hanging on the back wall of my “Sound Lounge” are many guitars, two of which are electric guitars that I built myself. Over the past few years I have researched extensively how to build custom six strings from the ground up. I am very proud of the guitars and regularly use them in my performances. Each one of my custom creations has its own personality, unique to itself. Building and creating guitars has greatly enhanced my knowledge of these fine instruments.
I am eager to take the disciplines I have learned through Music and apply them towards my future growth. I believe that my enthusiasm and willingness to learn will make me a valued asset to your University.
